N-Hydroxylierte Derivate von Amidinen, Guanidinen und Amidinohydrazonen werden durch P450-Enzyme auch in Stickstoffmonoxid ( NO ) und entsprechende Amide, Harnstoffe und Semicarbazone überführt.
Diese Reaktion kann man in Analogie zur physiologischen Freisetzung von NO aus N-Hydroxy-L-arginin durch NO-Synthasen ansehen.
Es wurden Konzepte entwickelt, die zeigen, dass die Mechanismen von NO-Synthasen und fremdstoffmetabolisierenden P450-Enzymen vergleichbar sind.
