In unserem Teilprojekt untersuchen wir an dem Modelorganismus Phaeobacter gallaeciensis die intraspezifische Populationsstruktur und evolutionären Mechanismen, die der großen genetischen und physiologischen Diversität der Gruppe zugrunde liegen.
Dafür kombinieren wir Hochdurchsatz-Kultivierungen mit einer physiologischen Charakterisierung der Isolate mittels BIOLOG-phenotyping, Multilocus Sequenz Analyse ( MLSA ) und funktionellen Genomanalysen.
Insbesondere wollen wir Einblicke in die Rolle von horizontalem Gentransfer, Genverdoppelung, Genverlust und Rekombinationsereignissen für die Divergenz der Bakterien gewinnen.

To this end, we combine high-throughput cultivation, physiological characterization of isolates by BIOLOG phenotyping, multilocus sequence analysis ( MLSA ) and functional genomics.
This will yield insights into the role of horizontal gene transfer, gene duplication, gene loss and recombination events and will allow comparisons with the population structure of other bacteria.
