Der Dichter John Keats bezeichnete Oxford zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts als « die schönste Stadt der Welt ».Das sind starke Worte, doch Mr. Keats hatte schon damals Grund genug für diese Aussage gehabt.
Große Teile der Stadt werden durch die altehrwürdige Architektur der historischen Universitätsgebäude der Oxford University geprägt.

John Keats, the poet, described Oxford in the early 19th century as “ the most beautiful city in the world ” : strong words, but Mr. Keats had reason enough, even then, for this statement.
Large parts of the city are shaped by the traditional architecture of Oxford University ’ s historic buildings.
