Sowohl der Kartesianismus wie auch der Kantianismus kritisieren diese Idee als naiv.
Den Aufstieg der Psychotherapie insbesondere in Form der Psychoanalyse am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts verstehen wir als Reaktion auf das Missverhältnis zwischen dem öffentlichen Bedürfnis nach philosophischer Therapie und der Weigerung der akademischen Philosophie, auf dieses Bedürfnis einzutreten.
