The history of the Inner Old Town and the Inner New Town is the history of the City of Dresden until approximately 1815.
During the destruction of Dresden (Zerstörung Dresdens) on the 13th of February 1945 the inner Old Town with its many cultural buildings was the most heavily affected quarter.
Starting from 1953 the reconstruction work begun first increasingly at the old market (Altmarkt) area in neo baroque style, later on the Ring and in the road formerly called Ernst-Thälmann-Straße with the front design becoming increasingly simple.

Bei der Zerstörung Dresdens am 13. Februar 1945 war die Innere Altstadt mit ihren vielen Kulturbauten der am schwersten betroffene Stadtteil.
