Die Geschichte zeigt, dass der heutige Ortsname Wilderswil vom Wort «villare» (Ableitung von lat. villa = Landgut) und dem Personennamen «Wild-hari» oder «Wild-heri» abstammt.
«Wild-heres-wilare» hätte unser Dorf in frühester Zeit geheissen und wäre also der Hof gewesen, auf dem der Alemanne Wild-heri oder Wild-hari mit seiner Sippschaft wohnte.
