Handelt es sich bei diesen um aliphatische , also gesättigte ketten- und ringförmige ( nicht aromatische ) Kohlenwasserstoffe mit zumeist 16-25 Kohlenstoffatomen , wird von „ mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons “ ( MOSH ) gesprochen .
Aromatische, also ungesättigte Kohlenwasserstoffe bestehen aus meist alkylierten polyzyklischen Verbindungen (i. d. R. mit ein bis vier aromatischen Ringen) und werden als „mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons“ (MOAH) bezeichnet.
