2008 wurde dieser Status aufgrund nicht vorhandener genetischer Daten zu „data deficient“ revidiert.
Um diese Lücke zu füllen, analysierten LMU-Wissenschaftler im Rahmen eines deutsch-britisch-saudi-arab... Projektes die DNA der beinahe 200 Jahre alten Typusexemplare - mit überraschendem Ergebnis:

To remedy this deficiency, LMU researchers recently examined the DNA of the almost 200-year-old type specimen, as part of a collaborative project that also involved scientists from the UK and Saudi Arabia.

Out of more than 30 presenters, Julia was chosen for the first place for her talk "Analysis of mouse mutants deficient in the thyroid hormone transporters Mct18 and Mct10". Steffen's talk "Analysis of mouse mutants deficient in the thyroid hormone transporter Oatp1c1" came in second.
