In Tierversuchen wurde gezeigt , dass die Transplantation von Stammzellen aus dem Knochenmark ( BMSCs - bone marrow derived stem cells ) in das verletzte Rückenmark die Sekundärschädigung begrenzen könnte .
Bisher war dieser neuroprotektive Effekt limitiert durch die kurze Überlebensdauer der BMSCs, sie sterben kurze Zeit nach der Transplantation in das Rückenmark ab.
