Während in der Hauptstadt Brasilia das Innere mit den Tribünen vom brasilianischen Architekten Castro Mello errichtet wird, entwarfen gmp und sbp unabhängig davon die umlaufende „Esplanade“ mit einem auf 288 Rundstützen stehenden ringförmigen Dach („Saturnring“) und das Seilnetz-Hängedach.
Auch Manaus, eine Stadt am Rio Negro, mitten im tropischen Regenwald, bekommt einen neuen Stadionbau, dessen korbförmige Gestalt vom Blattwerk tropischer Pflanzen inspiriert ist.
