In Deutschland besteht seit April 2005 das „ Themennetzwerk “, ein Zusammenschluss aus Vertretern staatlicher und nicht-staatlicher Organisationen mit langjähriger Expertise im Tourismusbereich.
Ziel des Netzwerkes ist es, Erfahrungen, Ansätze und Programme miteinander abzustimmen, die jeweiligen Kontakte und Allianzen zu verknüpfen und damit die deutschen Beiträge für nachhaltigen Tourismus als Entwicklungsfaktor noch effizienter zu gestalten.
Auf internationaler Ebene bestehen zahlreiche Arbeitskontakte mit Organisationen der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit in anderen Ländern sowie mit Entwicklungsbanken.
