Durch die erhöhte Sulfidkonzentration im Bereich des absterbenden Gewebes und den dadurch entstehenden Sauerstoffmangel kann sich die Gewebeläsion auf umliegendes, gesundes Gewebe ausweiten ;
eine positive Rückkopplung also, die für die schnelle Ausweitung der BBD sorgt.
