Five years after the signing of the peace agreement between the Indonesian Government and the Free Aceh Movement ( GAM ), commitments to establish a truth and reconciliation commission and a human rights court for Aceh have not been fulfilled.
Nonetheless, victims of human rights violations continue to mark key events in the history of the decade-long armed conflict.
Most recently, on 3 May 2010, they commemorated the so-called Simpang KKA-massacre in a ceremony that comprised public testimony by victims and the laying of the foundation stone for a monument by the of North Aceh government.
