Unter anderem photographierten die Raumsonden VIKING ( 1977 ) und MARS GLOBAL SURVEYOR ( 1998 ) die beiden Monde aus nächster Nähe und entdeckten damit die wahre Gestalt der beiden Marsbegleiter.
