Jedes Jahr spielen ungefähr 150 Bands 4 Tage lang von Donnerstag bis Sonntag auf sechs verschiedenen Bühnen.
Die Zeltplätze werden am Sonnabend vor dem Festival um 18 Uhr geöffnet und ab Sonntag gibt es dann Musik beim Pavillion Junior – der Bühne für kommende Auftritte – und eine lange Reihe von Aktivitäten in den 4 Tagen vor Donnerstag.
Roskilde Festival bedeutet 4 Tage „warm up“ und 4 Tage Musik.
