In den 70er-Jahren hat Berta das Neue Schweizer Kino stark geprägt und in den letzten 45 Jahren auch das europäische Kino mitgestaltet .
Zu den bekanntesten Arbeiten gehört «Au revoir les enfants» (1987) von Louis Malle, für den er 1988 mit dem César ausgezeichnet wurde.
